Disney dining cancellation policy and no-show fees

By PixieWire · Checked against Disney's own pages

Quick answer

At most Walt Disney World restaurants you can cancel without a fee, or change the booking, until 2 hours before your reservation time. Cancel later or don't show up and most charge $10 per person. A few need more notice, charge more, or both: Victoria & Albert's charges $100 per person unless you cancel 5 days ahead, and Cinderella's Royal Table, Hoop-Dee-Doo and the fireworks dessert parties charge the full price. At Disneyland, each restaurant sets its own policy.

Walt Disney World: the standard rule

  • Cancel by 2 hours before. Most restaurants charge $10 per person to cancel within 2 hours of the reservation time, or if you don't show up.
  • No changes in the last 2 hours. Restaurants that take reservations don't allow modifications within 2 hours of the reservation time.
  • Your card is the guarantee. For most venues the card you book with is a placeholder, charged only for a no-show or a late cancellation or change. Some restaurants and experiences take payment in advance.
  • Your booking states its own terms. Each restaurant's policy is shown when you book and repeated in your confirmation email.

Disneyland Resort

Disneyland doesn't publish one rule. Restaurants that take reservations charge a per-person fee for cancellations after their designated period and for no-shows, and each restaurant keeps its own policy, shown on its page online and in the Disneyland app. You can cancel or change a reservation online or in the app, once the reservation is linked to your MyDisney account (Disney).

How to cancel

  • Walt Disney World: online, or call (407) WDW-DINE, which is (407) 939-3463. Guests under 18 need a parent or guardian's permission to call.
  • Disneyland: online or in the Disneyland app, after linking the reservation to your MyDisney account.
  • Check the deadline in your confirmation email first; for most of the venues above it is days, not hours.

Cancellations are how sold-out tables come back

Walt Disney World's help page says that when a guest cancels, their reservation time is made available to another guest immediately (Disney). The deadlines shape when that happens: a guest whose plans change has every reason to cancel before theirs, 2 hours ahead at most restaurants and up to 5 days ahead at the strictest. That makes a fully booked restaurant worth watching right up to the day.

In PixieWire's own records for the 25 hardest Walt Disney World tables over the last 8 days, 11,778 openings appeared. 29% of them came on the dining date or in the 2 days before it, and the other 71% earlier. Tables come back throughout the window, not only at the last minute. The numbers update nightly; how we measure.

Watching for them is what PixieWire does. A dining alert checks Disney around the clock for the restaurant, dates, party size and times you pick, at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and alerts you with a link to book the table yourself. We never sign in to your Disney account and never book for you.

Questions

What is Disney World's dining cancellation policy?

Most Walt Disney World restaurants charge $10 per person if you cancel within 2 hours of your reservation time or don't show up; cancel earlier and there is no fee. Some experiences need more notice or charge more, up to the full price. The policy for your booking is shown when you book and in your confirmation email.

How late can I cancel a Disney dining reservation?

Up to 2 hours before the reservation time at most Walt Disney World restaurants, Cinderella's Royal Table included. Victoria & Albert's needs 5 days, Monsieur Paul 3 days and Takumi-Tei 2 days. Bourbon Steak, La Cava Experience, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert parties, the fireworks dining packages and a few other experiences need 1 day. At Disneyland, each restaurant sets its own deadline.

How much is the Disney dining no-show fee?

$10 per person at most Walt Disney World restaurants, charged to the card you booked with. It is $50 per person at La Cava Experience, $100 per person at Takumi-Tei, Monsieur Paul and Victoria & Albert's, and the full cost of the experience per person at Cinderella's Royal Table, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert parties, the Rose & Crown and Spice Road Table fireworks dining packages, the GEO-82 Fireworks Experience, Garden View Lounge's Tea Room Experience and Sangria University.

Can I change a Disney dining reservation instead of cancelling?

Yes, online, but not within 2 hours of the reservation time. Some experiences can't be changed at all once confirmed, including Cinderella's Royal Table, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert parties and the fireworks dining packages.

What is Victoria & Albert's cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 5 days before your reservation time or pay $100 per person. That is the longest notice Disney lists for any Walt Disney World restaurant.

What is Cinderella's Royal Table's cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 2 hours before your reservation time or pay the full cost of the meal for each person. The reservation can't be changed once it is confirmed.

Does Disney charge my card when I book a dining reservation?

For most Walt Disney World restaurants, no. The card is a placeholder and is charged only if you don't show up or cancel or change too late. Disney says some restaurants and experiences require payment in advance; the terms are shown when you book.

Is the cancellation policy the same at Disneyland?

Not exactly. Disneyland says restaurants that take reservations charge a per-person fee for cancellations after the designated period or for no-shows, and each restaurant sets its own policy, shown online and in the Disneyland app. Link the reservation to your MyDisney account before you cancel it online.

Why do sold-out Disney restaurants open up again?

Because guests cancel. Disney says a cancelled reservation time is made available to other guests immediately. PixieWire watches for those openings at Walt Disney World and Disneyland and sends you an alert with a link to book the table yourself.
