Kona Island at Disney's Polynesian — The Best Quick Stop You're Probably Walking Past
Tucked into the second-floor lobby of the Polynesian, Kona Island serves Joffrey's exclusive Kona blend coffee, handcrafted pastries, grab-and-go sushi, and some of the most photogenic desserts on Disney property — all without a reservation.

Kona Island sits on the second floor of Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, right next to the entrance to Kona Cafe. Most guests walk past it on their way to breakfast reservations without realizing what they're missing. It's a quick-service coffee and pastry bar in the morning that transitions to grab-and-go sushi and desserts in the afternoon — and it serves one of the best cups of coffee on Walt Disney World property.
No park ticket needed. No reservation. No resort stay required. Just monorail over, walk in, and head upstairs.

What Is Kona Island?
Kona Island is a quick-service counter that shares a kitchen wall with Kona Cafe but operates independently with its own menu, hours, and no reservations required. In the morning, it functions as a full-service coffee bar with pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and specialty espresso drinks using Joffrey's exclusive Kona blend. After the breakfast rush, the case transitions to grab-and-go sushi rolls, miniature desserts, and character-themed cupcakes.

Is Kona Island Worth a Special Trip?
Yes — especially if you're a resort hopper or looking for a low-key morning before a park day. The Polynesian is a short monorail ride from Magic Kingdom. Grab coffee and a pastry, eat on the second-floor overlook with a view of the waterfalls and palm trees, and still be at Magic Kingdom's gate before rope drop.
It's also a smart alternative for anyone who can't get a Kona Cafe breakfast reservation. You won't get Tonga Toast, but you'll get a better-than-average pastry and legitimately good coffee without waiting for a table.
Coffee Menu and Prices
Kona Island uses Joffrey's Coffee exclusively — an exclusive Kona blend you can't get at the standard park kiosks. The full espresso menu runs from $4.79 to $6.99. The cold brew with sweet cream ($5.99/$6.49) is a standout. For something with a kick, they serve the Kona Blend with Baileys or Kahlua for $16.50.

Breakfast Pastries and Prices
The morning pastry case is well-stocked:
| Item | Price |
| Bacon, Egg, and Cheddar Croissant Sandwich | $7.29 |
| Cinnamon Roll | $5.49 |

The Star: Chocolate-Covered Bacon
At $4.25, the chocolate-covered bacon is Kona Island's signature item. A thick-cut strip of crispy bacon drizzled with dark chocolate — salty, sweet, crunchy, and slightly ridiculous. One strip is genuinely enough.

What We Ordered — Our Review
On a recent April morning, we grabbed an iced caramel macchiato, the coconut-pineapple choux, the Aloha cupcake, and chocolate-covered bacon. About $25 before tax — comparable to a single entree at Kona Cafe next door, but with no wait and no reservation.
The choux was the highlight — crisp craquelin shell, fresh whipped cream with real coconut and pineapple flavor. The Aloha cupcake was dense and heavily frosted. The bacon is not negotiable. Everyone should try it once.

Also at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort
The Polynesian is one of the best dining resorts at Walt Disney World. Beyond Kona Island, the resort is home to two table-service restaurants: Kona Cafe (breakfast and dinner with fan-favorite Tonga Toast and Polynesian-Asian fusion entrees) and 'Ohana (family-style character breakfast and all-you-can-eat dinner with the famous 'Ohana noodles and bread pudding).
The resort also has Captain Cook's (a quick-service spot with flatbreads, sushi bowls, and Dole Whip), Pineapple Lanai (the go-to Dole Whip window), Trader Sam's Grog Grotto (the immersive tiki bar that's one of the hardest walk-up lounges to get into at Disney), Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace (the outdoor overflow patio with the same drink menu), and Tambu Lounge (a quieter bar right off the lobby). We look forward to reviewing each of these in future posts.
